5 Things to Do in Athens, GA This Halloween Weekend | October 30 – November 1, 2026
Halloween weekend is here, and Athens has plenty of ways to celebrate!
From one of the most entertaining Halloween parades in Georgia to trick-or-treating along the Firefly Trail, a spooky behind-the-scenes tour, and local markets, there's a little something for everyone this weekend.
Whether you're looking for family-friendly fun, something outdoors, or an excuse to put on a costume and head downtown, here are five events worth checking out around Athens October 30 – November 1.
1. Wild Rumpus Halloween Parade & Spectacle
Saturday, October 31 | 8:00–11:00 PM
Downtown Athens
If you've never experienced Wild Rumpus, you're missing one of Athens' most wonderfully weird traditions.
Now in its 18th year, the Wild Rumpus Halloween Parade & Spectacle takes over downtown with elaborate costumes, live performers, music, dancing, and a parade where everyone is encouraged to join the fun.
And when I say costumes, I don't mean a few people wearing witch hats. Athens goes all out for this one.
The festivities begin earlier in the evening with the Rumpus Rally at Creature Comforts Brewing Co. from 5:00–8:00 PM. The main parade and spectacle run from 8:00–11:00 PM, followed by an official after-party at Paloma Park from 11:00 PM–2:00 AM.
Cost: Free admission to the parade and spectacle.
Good to know: Costumes are encouraged, and no parade ticket is required. Adults 21 and older who want to carry alcoholic beverages within the designated festival zone will need a wristband.

Saturday, October 31 | 6:00–8:00 PM
Firefly Trail, Downtown Winterville

If you're looking for something a little more low-key and family-friendly, Winterville's Treats on the Trail is a great option.
This Halloween celebration brings trick-or-treating to the Firefly Trail, along with local vendors, food trucks, music, train rides, and other activities.
It's a fun way to enjoy Halloween while supporting a smaller community just outside Athens.
Cost: Free.

3. Athens Farmers Market Halloween Market

Bishop Park
705 Sunset Drive, Athens
The Athens Farmers Market is getting into the Halloween spirit!
Along with the usual local produce, prepared foods, flowers, handmade goods, and market vendors, Saturday's market will feature trick-or-treating, costumes, live music, and special activities for kids.
There's even a costume parade beginning at 9:30 AM at the market's Kids Booth.
Other activities include live music from The Flying V, a community wellness class, and a performance by Athens Dance Collective.
If you're already planning to shop for local produce this weekend, you might as well make it a Halloween outing.

4. Trick or Treatment: A Spooky Behind-the-Scenes Tour
Friday, October 30 | 6:00–7:30 PM

This might be the most unusual Halloween event happening around Athens this weekend.
Athens-Clarke County is offering a Halloween-themed behind-the-scenes tour of the Cedar Creek Water Reclamation Facility.
Participants will learn how wastewater is treated, meet some of the microscopic organisms that help with the process, and discover what goes into keeping Athens' water clean.
It's educational, a little quirky, and definitely something different from your typical Halloween plans.
Costumes are welcome!

5. Little JoyFest
Sunday, November 1 | 11:00 AM–4:00 PM

After all the Halloween excitement, Little JoyFest sounds like a fun way to spend a relaxing Sunday.
This community gathering celebrates local makers, creativity, and small businesses with a variety of activities throughout the day.
Expect local vendors, food from Homy's Food Truck, trinket trading, free art-making activities, and even puppy snuggles with Tails of Tallassee.
It's a great excuse to get out, shop local, and enjoy something a little different after a busy Halloween weekend.

Make the Most of Halloween Weekend in Athens
One of the things I love about Athens is that we don't do ordinary very well, and Halloween weekend is a perfect example.
You can start Saturday morning shopping local at the farmers market, take the kids trick-or-treating along the Firefly Trail in Winterville, and finish the night surrounded by thousands of costumed characters downtown at Wild Rumpus.
Or, if costumes and crowds aren't your thing, there are plenty of smaller community events to enjoy.
That's what makes living in Athens so much fun. There's always something happening, and sometimes the best experiences are the ones you didn't even know were on the calendar.
I'll keep sharing local events, outdoor activities, food finds, and things worth putting on your calendar each week.
